British Schools National Finals 2012 :By Richard Olive Hothi

National Championship Finals 2012

Half past six Saturday morning we got up to get to Polegate train station, the tickets were booked so we got on the train. There were quite a few stops on the way to Brighton and again to Reading where we changed again for Bristol.

When we finally arrived there was a sense of relief, we looked around for a while then we set off walking to our hotel. We had walked quite a distance from the train station into the centre of Bristol where our hotel was. We booked in (our keys were cards), then found our room and dropped off all our luggage and then went for a look around the shops etc. We went to the well known Bristol Suspension Bridge, it was amazing, it was a giant bridge over a huge gorge and the suspended bridge moved when weight went over it. We were able to walk on both sides the view was amazing. We had dinner in the beefeater grill restaurant attached to our hotel, it was really good then it was finally time to go to bed (except my sister would not be quiet) finally in the end everyone in the room went to sleep.

In the morning we woke up early again about 7’0’ clock to get ready and have breakfast the breakfast was really good, we got a taxi to the Bristol City Sports Centre where the competition was held. We needed to find every one and get ready for when I was competing.

Before we did our routines and practices we all marched on in rows to music led by flag bearers which was fun. Ben Harmer and Aaron Sharp were in the first flight of competitors and me (Richard Olive Hothi) Sam Avery and Bob Sandalls were in the second flight of competitors round about 12 o’ clock. We had 20 minutes of warming up (round about 4 goes) and then we all sat in competing order. I was last to compete at number 29 first we all got a controlled warm up and a one touch, when it got to number 29 I was nervous, but I went round the trampolines and preformed. I was doing really well until half way through when I came out of my backdrop half twist to feet and I landed on one foot I had over rotated so there was nothing I could have done. I only got scored out of 7 instead of 10 which was really bad, then I went on to my voluntary routine and I did pretty well on that one, apart from the end where I over rotated again and just hung as I did my tuck jump front summersault. When it was all finished we marched out again and stood for the National Anthem our names were called out so went up to receive our 3rd place team medal and shield for the school I came 8th individually which wasn’t that bad but mistakes happen and I have learned from it.  This was a weekend at the National Finals in Bristol 2012
